The M61 motorway was shut down for several hours following a serious incident involving police and emergency services in Greater Manchester
Bolton: A serious incident caused a major shutdown on the M61 motorway. It was closed for hours, and folks were stuck in traffic.
The closure affected the southbound lanes between junctions 6 and 5. It all kicked off just before 5 am, and as of 1 pm, the road was still blocked.
Emergency services, including police and paramedics, rushed to the scene. They were dealing with what was described as a ‘concern for welfare’ situation.
According to the Manchester Evening News, both Greater Manchester Police and Lancashire Police were on-site, along with firefighters.
National Highways warned that the disruption might last until around 5:45 pm. So, if you were planning to travel that way, it’s best to find another route.
They even posted updates on X, letting everyone know about the closure and advising drivers to plan ahead.
So, if you’re in the area, keep an eye on the traffic reports and stay safe out there!
