A Magheralin woman has been fined and banned from driving after crashing while over twice the legal alcohol limit
She showed up in court recently, and it turns out she was charged with driving under the influence. The police got a call about the crash on November 26, 2024, and when they arrived, they noticed she seemed pretty intoxicated.
They found her parked in her driveway, airbags deployed, and her car looking pretty banged up. You could smell the alcohol on her, and she failed a breath test. The reading was 73 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, while the legal limit is just 35. Ouch!
When they asked her what happened, she said the sun was in her eyes and she didn’t think she was over the limit. She thought she could just drive home since she lived nearby. Her lawyer mentioned that she has health issues and has been relying on taxis since the incident.
The judge wasn’t too impressed, especially since she had a previous drink driving conviction back in 2017. He fined her £450 and banned her from driving for over three years. Not the best outcome for Bernice, that’s for sure.
