A man known for stealing from Boots stores has been sentenced to 42 weeks in jail
Malvern: So, there’s this guy named Craig Sawyer, right? He’s been causing quite a stir in the local shops. They even called him “Satchel Man” because he always carried this brown shoulder bag when he was stealing. It made it super easy for the police to spot him.
This 51-year-old dude just got sentenced to 42 weeks in jail at Kidderminster Magistrates Court. He’s also banned from all Boots stores and can’t even step foot in Worcestershire for five years. Talk about a serious punishment!
Sawyer was caught at a Co-op in Malvern and ended up being found guilty of 16 thefts. Can you believe that? Twelve of those were from Boots stores, including five each from Evesham and Malvern.
Witnesses said he liked to change his look, dyeing his hair and wearing glasses. When they arrested him, he had a bunch of different jackets on him.
He didn’t just stick to Boots, either. He also stole from places in Walsall, Shrewsbury, and even a Co-op in Malvern. All in all, he racked up a whopping £11,475.55 in thefts between March and December 2024.
Boots confirmed he was responsible for around £28,000 in thefts from their stores across the country. That’s a lot of trouble for one guy!
On top of that, he got an extra 22 weeks in prison because of some previous thefts in Uttoxeter. It seems like he just couldn’t stay out of trouble.
A police spokesperson joked about his nickname, saying it was unfortunate he always used that same brown bag. The local police are pretty pleased with the outcome, saying it helps protect retailers in the long run.
The Safer Neighbourhood Inspector mentioned that catching Sawyer was a big win for them and shows their commitment to tackling retail crime.
