Three suspects are in custody following the tragic death of a man who tried to help a stranger with car trouble on Christmas Eve
Tucson: It’s a heartbreaking story. A good Samaritan named Paul Clifford, 53, went out to help someone with car trouble on Christmas Eve and ended up losing his life. He was found dead near his own burned-out truck.
Authorities arrested two teenagers and a man in connection with his death. They’re facing some serious charges, including first-degree murder and robbery. The suspects are Jack Upchurch, 40, Elmer Smith, 19, and 16-year-old Wendy Scott.
Clifford’s family reported him missing after he left home to help a stranger. He took his daughter’s truck to jump-start the vehicle but never came back. Sadly, his body was discovered the next day near his smoldering vehicle.
His daughter, Sabrina Vining, expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their hard work in solving the case. She shared on social media that they had arrested the suspects, which brought some relief to her family.
The arrests happened after a standoff with the suspects, who barricaded themselves in a house. Thankfully, they surrendered without any trouble.
In her posts, Sabrina described her dad as a gentle giant with a big heart. She’s been trying to support her mom during this tough time and set up a GoFundMe to help with expenses.
