Canley Heights: Police have arrested a suspect after a man was shot outside a family home in what they’re calling a targeted attack.

Emergency services found the 31-year-old victim on Sunday night after hearing gunfire just before 7 PM.

Despite paramedics’ efforts, he sadly died at the scene.

Shortly after, they discovered a burning white Audi in a nearby suburb, which they think is connected to the shooting.

Authorities believe the victim was shot while in his car and tried to escape on foot.

Witnesses say the shooter approached the driver’s side and fired multiple shots.

Unfortunately, the victim didn’t get far before he collapsed from his injuries.

Police suspect the shooting is tied to the local drug trade, according to Det Supt Daniel Doherty.

Doherty mentioned that the incident occurred “outside a family residence” and is linked to organized crime.

They’ve also identified a grey Jeep Cherokee as a second vehicle involved.

“It’s a very sad, tragic situation … it’s terrible for his family,” he added.

A 33-year-old man was arrested the following morning and is currently helping police with their inquiries.

Detective Acting Supt Jason Pietruszka emphasized that this was a “targeted attack” and that a major investigation is underway.

“We believe this is not a random shooting,” he stated.

New South Wales police are dedicating significant resources to this case.

Homicide detectives are still investigating, and anyone with information is encouraged to reach out.
