A man was taken into custody following a police operation targeting drugs in Barton, highlighting community safety efforts.
Barton: So, there was this big police operation in Barton, and they ended up arresting a guy for drugs. He’s in custody now.
This whole thing was part of Operation Tornado, which is a monthly initiative that tackles various issues in different areas. It was the first time they ran it in Richmondshire and Hambleton.
During the operation, they also arrested a man and a woman in their 20s for being in the UK illegally. This happened when officers checked out a business in Northallerton.
Besides making arrests, the police were out and about, making their presence known. They had patrols and set up stalls in town to share safety tips with folks.
A spokesperson from North Yorkshire Police mentioned they’ve been collaborating with local residents and businesses to address problems like burglary and anti-social behavior.
They even visited schools to connect with kids. At Le Cateau Primary, a police officer and a crime scene investigator helped students solve a fun mystery about a half-eaten Mars bar.
At Mill Hill school, older kids learned about knife crime prevention, while younger ones got to try on police gear and sit in police cars.
On the roads, the Road Policing Group was out looking for stolen vehicles and ensuring everyone was safe, especially with the chilly weather.
Richmondshire Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Lauren Wilkinson said it was a big day for community support and tackling crime. Despite the cold, the community welcomed them and shared their concerns.
She emphasized that working together helps them focus on what really matters to residents, creating a strong sense of community spirit.
