A man was taken into custody following a chaotic gangland incident in Sydney that involved a police chase and gunfire.
Sydney: So, there was this wild scene in Edensor Park. A guy got arrested after a botched gangland shooting led to a crazy police chase. It all kicked off around 1:30 AM when two armed men tried to break into a house. They took off in a Hyundai, and that’s when the police got involved.
Turns out, the house is linked to some organized crime stuff, which is pretty alarming. The police deputy commissioner, Peter Thurtell, mentioned how concerning it is that someone would just stroll up to a home with a gun. Luckily, the folks living there weren’t home at the time.
After setting up a crime scene, the police found the Hyundai and started chasing it down Cowpasture Road. During the chase, someone in the car actually fired shots at the police! Thankfully, no officers were hurt.
They had to call off the chase for safety reasons but managed to stop the car with road spikes shortly after. The driver, a 20-year-old, was arrested, but the passenger took off on foot.
Police found a firearm in the car that they believe was used to shoot at them. It’s a relief that the dog squad officer and his dog weren’t injured. With the connections to organized crime, it’s pretty clear this was gang-related.
When they searched the car, they found two pistols, an assault rifle, and a bunch of spent cartridges. The vehicle is now with the police for forensic checks, but no charges have been laid yet.
