A man has been arrested after a car struck pedestrians in London, leaving one in critical condition and raising concerns of attempted murder.
London: Early on Christmas Day, a man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a car hit several pedestrians in the West End. It all went down around 12:45 AM on Shaftesbury Avenue in Covent Garden.
According to the Metropolitan Police, they got calls about a collision and a car driving the wrong way. Four people were taken to the hospital, and one of them is in a life-threatening condition.
The driver, a 31-year-old guy, was quickly arrested. Police think he might have been involved in a fight at a nightclub before he jumped in his car and drove onto the sidewalk.
They’ve confirmed that this was an isolated incident and not related to terrorism. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Stuart Cundy mentioned that officers acted fast, working with the City of London Police to make the arrest within minutes.
Detectives are already on the case, moving quickly with their inquiries. They’ve set up several scenes at the location for further investigation.
