A 23-year-old man from the Ute Mountain Tribe has been arrested for the suspected murder of a child on a Colorado reservation
Oljato: A tragic incident has unfolded on a Colorado reservation. A 23-year-old man named Jeremiah Hight was arrested in connection with the murder of a 7-year-old child.
Hight, who belongs to the Ute Mountain Tribe, was taken into custody on Christmas Eve after being on the run for over a week. The Navajo Police found him on a mesa, which is pretty remote.
The child was shot in a targeted attack on a home back on December 11. Details about what led to the shooting are still under wraps, and the arrest warrant for Hight was sealed.
Law enforcement had been actively searching for him since December 21, even offering a $10,000 reward for tips that could lead to his capture. Thankfully, he was arrested without any trouble.
Hight is described as a big guy, standing 6 feet tall and weighing around 400 pounds. He has several tattoos and some distinct features, like a scar on his chest.
After the shooting, tribal chairman Manuel Heart expressed his outrage, calling the act “senseless.” He urged the community to let the authorities handle the investigation instead of seeking revenge.
Heart is also pushing for more police presence on the reservation and wants to implement a ban on shooting in the nearby communities of Towaoc and White Mesa, Utah. He’s determined to prevent any more tragedies like this from happening.
