London: A man named Imran Chowdhury is in some hot water. He’s accused of giving £400 to Daniel Khalife, who made a daring escape from HMP Wandsworth. Apparently, Khalife managed to sneak out by hiding under a food truck. Wild, right?

So, the story goes that Chowdhury withdrew the cash and handed it over to Khalife while he was on the run. This guy Khalife, a former soldier, was already in trouble for spying for Iran and is set to be sentenced soon.

According to the court, Chowdhury helped Khalife dodge the police for over three days. It’s said that Khalife used the money to buy a phone to contact someone in Iran, plus food and clothes. Sounds like a bit of a plan, doesn’t it?

Chowdhury, who lives in Chingford, showed up in court for the first time to face these serious allegations. He pleaded not guilty to helping Khalife escape, and the judge decided to send the case to crown court for a proper trial.

The prosecutor laid it out, saying Khalife’s escape made headlines worldwide. He was caught just three days later, but not before he was seen shopping and grabbing a coffee. Talk about living it up while on the run!

On the day he broke out, Khalife was spotted shopping for clothes and even buying a newspaper while his own manhunt was making news. He was finally caught after changing his clothes and enjoying a McDonald’s espresso.

Chowdhury was arrested in January 2024, and he confirmed his identity in court while entering his not guilty plea. The judge has pushed the case to a hearing in February, and for now, Chowdhury is out on bail but has to stay at home each night.
