Keswick: A man tragically lost his life in the Lake District after falling 70 meters from a mountain ridge. It’s such a sad situation.

The incident happened on Thursday, January 2, when the rescue team got their first callout of the year. They rushed to Sharp Edge, where the fall occurred.

They received the call around 12:25 PM, and a crew member quickly made their way to the scene. A helicopter was also sent to help out.

After the rescue, the man’s body was taken to the mountain rescue base in Keswick, but sadly, he hasn’t been named yet.

The rescue team expressed their gratitude to the helicopter crew and the Coastguard, as well as the fellow hikers who stepped in to help. They shared their condolences for the man’s family and friends on Facebook.

It’s heartbreaking to see such a tragedy unfold, especially with the snowy conditions. Sharp Edge is known for its challenging terrain, leading up to the 868-meter-high Blencathra mountain.

On that day, temperatures dropped to around 2°C, making the climb even tougher. The Cumbria Tourism website describes the route as “strenuous,” warning that while it can thrill experienced climbers, it can also intimidate others.
