Belfast: A 62-year-old man was recently extradited from the Netherlands to face serious charges in Northern Ireland. He’s accused of raping and sexually assaulting his two nieces between 1995 and 2001.

The court heard that authorities tracked him down using tax records after struggling to locate him for years. He appeared at the Laganside Magistrates Court, where he faced a total of 13 charges, including three counts of rape and several indecent assaults.

His lawyer pointed out that the man hasn’t been convicted yet and hasn’t even been interviewed about these allegations. The police had a tough time finding him, but eventually, Interpol was able to locate him through his tax information.

The judge decided that he could be released on bail, but only if he finds a place approved by the police and hands over his passport. The case is set to continue in the Crown Court, and the judge has prohibited any contact with the alleged victims. The next hearing is scheduled for February 7.
