Nimet Isufi has been sentenced to over three years for his role in a large cannabis operation in Bishop Auckland
Bishop Auckland: So, Nimet Isufi just got hit with a prison sentence of three years and nine months. This all happened after he missed his trial at Durham Crown Court back in October.
The guy’s 26 and from Pelton, near Chester-le-Street. He was supposed to be there for his trial, but he didn’t show up. Turns out, he was involved in a pretty big cannabis grow—about 100 plants, all set up with fancy heating and lighting. They even bypassed the electric meter!
Police found the whole operation on December 8, 2020, at a place on Heslop Street. Since he didn’t show for his trial, they found him guilty in his absence. Judge Chris Smith wasn’t having it and slapped him with a 43-month sentence, plus a bench warrant for his arrest.
Oh, and the judge also ordered that all the cannabis plants and the equipment be destroyed. There was another guy, Admir Isufi, who was also involved but got cleared of the charges against him.
Fast forward to 2025, Nimet appeared via video link from Durham Prison after they finally caught him. The judge added a week to his sentence because he admitted he didn’t show up for court.
It’s been a long road for this case, with police working hard to track down everyone involved. They only got to the plea hearing in February 2023, and the trial was delayed a couple of times before it finally happened in October.
Nimet’s role in all this was from November 1 to December 8, 2020. Quite the story, huh?
