A man has been sentenced to five years after kids found a loaded gun while playing in Newcastle
Newcastle: So, there was this wild incident where kids were just playing around in Byker and stumbled upon a loaded gun. Can you believe it?
The guy behind it, Ali Abdughari-Abud, who’s only 22, got caught after police checked his phone. They found a video of him with the same revolver-style gun the kids found. Talk about bad luck!
It all went down back in May 2023. The kids, aged between nine and eleven, found the firearm while having fun. Thankfully, no one got hurt, but it could have been a lot worse.
After digging into the case, the police discovered that the gun was indeed real and had ammo in it when the kids found it. Yikes!
Abdughari-Abud, who lives in Shieldfield, faced the music at Newcastle Crown Court. He admitted to having the gun and the ammo without a license. He was sentenced to five years in prison on December 20.
Detective Sergeant David Wylam from Northumbria Police said it was a great team effort that got this dangerous guy off the streets. He also mentioned how lucky it was that the kids didn’t get hurt, considering they were playing with a loaded weapon.
