A man has been sentenced after a viral video showed him being hit in the groin with a brick during the Southport riots this summer
Southport: So, there was this wild scene during the summer riots where a guy named Brian Spencer got hit in the groin with a brick. Yeah, it went viral. He was caught on camera acting all cocky, dancing around and taunting the police while they were getting pelted with stuff.
Then, out of nowhere, he gets hit in the head and shortly after, bam! A brick to the groin. Ouch! You could see him double over in pain. It was pretty brutal.
Fast forward to Monday, and Spencer showed up at Liverpool Crown Court. He ended up getting two years and six months in jail for violent disorder. This all went down on July 30.
But that’s not all. He also got time for racially aggravated harassment after he verbally abused someone at Southport Hospital the next day while getting treated for his injuries. Not cool, right?
The footage showed him throwing punches at a police car and even tossing wheelie bins at officers. Later that night, the cops had to take him to the hospital for his head injury, and they recognized him from the viral video. Talk about bad luck!
While he was getting treated, he decided to hurl some racial slurs at another patient. Seriously, what was he thinking?
This whole mess started after a tragic incident where three girls were killed in a knife attack in Southport. Detective Inspector Paula Jones from Merseyside Police said the violence was really serious, and many officers got hurt during the chaos.
She mentioned that Spencer was part of the trouble and would be spending a good chunk of time behind bars. The police are still reviewing footage and gathering info to catch everyone involved. So far, they’ve arrested 163 people, with 117 charged and a total of 182 years and four months handed out in sentences. Wild times!
