Cold Weather Payments are now available for 51 UK areas due to freezing temperatures
Bradford: The Department for Work and Pensions has rolled out Cold Weather Payments for 51 areas in the UK. This means about 95,000 households can get £25 to help with heating costs as the temperature drops.
These payments cover 45 areas in West Yorkshire, including places like Bradford, Halifax, and Huddersfield, and even reach parts of East Lancashire, like Burnley.
There are also six postcode districts in North Yorkshire and County Durham that will benefit from these payments. The trigger for this assistance was a week of freezing temperatures starting January 4.
So far this winter, over 100,000 households have qualified for these Cold Weather Payments. If you want to see if your postcode is on the list, there’s an interactive map available.
Here’s a quick rundown of the new postcodes eligible for payments since January 4. They include areas like Rawtenstall, Burnley, and various parts of Bradford.
Previously, two payments totaling £50 were given to around 10,000 households in Cumbria and Northumberland. Northern Ireland also has a similar scheme, where eight areas received a £25 payment triggered on the same date.
In England and Wales, these payments are for people receiving certain benefits. Northern Ireland has its own system, while Scotland provides heating support every winter, regardless of the weather.
