The historic Martello Tower No.25 in Dymchurch is on track to open as a holiday let by spring after overcoming recent setbacks
Gary Mayatt, the developer, had plans to finish the project by the end of 2024, but now it seems they might wrap it up by spring. The tower, which has been in rough shape for ages, is finally getting the attention it deserves.
After the break-in, where thieves made off with £30,000 worth of metal, the team has been working hard. The roof is fixed, and the scaffolding is down. They’re just waiting on utility connections now.
This tower has a rich history, dating back to the Napoleonic Wars. Gary bought it because it reminded him of his childhood holidays. The plans include turning it into a cozy spot with four storeys, a cinema room, and even a lovely kitchen with sea views.
It’s located right in the Dymchurch Beach car park, so it’ll be a great spot for visitors. The tower is one of many built to protect against invasions, and while they never saw combat, they were handy for catching smugglers.
Some towers are still standing strong, while others have fallen into disrepair. But with this project, Martello Tower No.25 is set to shine again, welcoming guests to enjoy its charm and history.
