Residents of Meadow Mill in Stockport face uncertainty and financial strain after severe flooding disrupted their lives and homes
Dave Howarth, a resident, is feeling the pinch. He’s run out of money for a hotel and had to return to his flat, even though there’s no electricity or water. He’s just trying to make do with what he has.
Around 400 people had to evacuate during the floods, and now they’re left wondering when they can go back. The property management company, CERT, says they can’t give a timeline for repairs yet. They need to do a lot of work to get everything back to normal.
The floodwaters caused serious damage, taking out a substation and leaving the ground floor in a mess. Engineers are on-site trying to assess the damage, but it’s a slow process. Residents are feeling the strain, especially with the lack of updates.
Hannah Miles and her partner are also struggling. They’ve run out of money for hotels and just want a place to cook and wash their clothes. It’s tough when you’re young and just trying to make ends meet.
Joe Bevan, who just moved into his flat, is staying with his parents now. He feels lucky compared to others but is still frustrated about the slow pace of repairs. Everyone just wants to know when they can return home.
Shine Thomas woke up on New Year’s Day to find his flat without power and surrounded by floodwaters. He’s been staying with family, but the uncertainty is stressful.
CERT has reached out to all the residents and says they’ll keep everyone updated. But for now, it’s a waiting game for those at Meadow Mill.
