The chairman of the Met’s Black Police Association faces misconduct charges for sharing racist messages in a WhatsApp group
London: So, there’s this big scandal brewing over at the Met Police. The chairman of the Black Police Association, Inspector Charles Ehikioya, is in hot water for sharing some pretty awful racist messages in a WhatsApp group.
Apparently, he and a former officer, Carlo Francisco, exchanged over 7,000 messages filled with sick jokes and offensive content from 2017 to 2020. Yikes, right?
Some of the stuff they shared included a video that mocked a Korean woman and even some really inappropriate comments about a girl with Down’s syndrome. It’s just shocking.
They also joked about a tragic car accident involving the Duke of Edinburgh, which is just in bad taste. I mean, come on, there’s a line!
Ehikioya showed up for a misconduct hearing recently, and it’s not looking good for him. He’s also accused of sending a video featuring a child in a compromising situation, which is just beyond unacceptable.
The whole mess came to light when a female officer complained about Francisco in December 2020, leading to the discovery of these messages. Francisco was already kicked off the force for unrelated issues last year.
During the hearing, the Met’s representative pointed out that a lot of the messages were not just racist but also sexist and violent. It raises serious questions about whether these officers can do their jobs fairly.
Ehikioya did send a couple of messages telling Francisco to stop sharing such content, but it seems he didn’t really take a stand against it. Instead, he just kept the cycle going.
He’s denying everything, claiming the messages were made up with a racist agenda. The hearing is set to last four days, so we’ll see how this unfolds.
