A Middlesbrough man has been sentenced for dealing cocaine through a mobile phone, sending thousands of messages to potential buyers
Middlesbrough: So, there’s this guy named Jordan Wheldon who got himself into some serious trouble. He was caught dealing cocaine and ended up in court.
The police seized his iPhone when they arrested him last year. Turns out, he used that phone to send out messages about 60 times to sell drugs. Crazy, right?
During the court hearing, the prosecutor, Emma Atkinson, mentioned that he even used the same phone to make doctor appointments and call insurance brokers. Talk about multitasking!
She said he was sending out these messages almost every day. When the police searched his home, they found around £1,300 in cash. Not a good sign!
They also discovered that he sent over 40,000 text messages in just a couple of months. That’s a lot of messages for someone trying to sell drugs!
Wheldon, who lives in Beckenham Gardens, pleaded guilty to dealing cocaine between March and May last year. His lawyer, Nicci Horton, said he started dealing to make some extra cash and support his own habit but claimed he’s clean now.
She explained that he was hiding his drug use from friends and family. When he saw a chance to make some money and get free drugs, he jumped at it.
In the end, Judge Tom Mitchell sentenced him to three years in prison. He pointed out that Wheldon was using his phone to advertise drug sales, which is a serious offense.
The judge noted that he contacted a lot of people about buying cocaine, and having that cash on him was a clear sign of his involvement in the drug trade.
