Eliza and Henrietta Huszti were last seen near Victoria Bridge in Aberdeen, raising concerns for their safety after a mysterious disappearance.
Aberdeen: Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, both 32, were last spotted on Market Street at the Victoria Bridge over the River Dee around 2:12 AM on January 7. They crossed the bridge and headed right onto a footpath by the river, moving towards the Aberdeen Boat Club.
Police have confirmed that the sisters were seen at the same bridge around 2:50 PM on January 6, spending about five minutes there without interacting with anyone.
Interestingly, a text from Henrietta’s phone was sent to their landlady at 2:12 AM on January 7, indicating they wouldn’t be coming back to their flat. After that, the phone went offline and hasn’t been active since.
Search efforts have ramped up, involving police helicopters, dog units, and marine teams. Authorities are focusing on the River Dee, as there’s no sign the women left the area.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the sisters, originally from Hungary and part of a set of triplets, were planning to move out of their rented flat. Police Superintendent David Howieson mentioned that their landlady had concerns about their sudden departure.
However, their brother Jozsef told the BBC that the sisters hadn’t mentioned any plans to move during a call with their mother just days before they vanished. He said they had sent a message to their landlady about ending their tenancy but hadn’t shared that with their family.
He added that the sisters were financially stable and saving to buy their own home. Police are keeping an open mind about their disappearance but haven’t found evidence of foul play.
Howieson noted that the sisters’ behavior on the day they disappeared was unusual. He said, “We’re trying to remain open-minded about the circumstances. It’s puzzling why they left home and walked to that area before the CCTV footage ran out.”
One theory is that they may have entered the water for unknown reasons, which is why the search is heavily focused on the river and surrounding areas. However, they’re not ruling out other possibilities yet.
