Cliffe Woods: It’s a tough time for the community as Mockbeggar Farm Shop is shutting down after more than 40 years. The owner, Kim Fox, shared that they’ve been really touched by all the support from customers.

The shop, located on Town Road, will close its doors for good this Saturday, January 11. Kim took over the farm shop in December 2018, hoping for a change from her city job.

She mentioned that she was looking for something different and thought running a farm shop would be a nice fit. But it turned out to be a lot more work than she expected!

Mockbeggar is known for its fresh local produce and has a cozy tea room. Kim and her colleague Debra Richardson, who joined in 2020, have enjoyed their time there, but they recently made the tough choice to close.

Kim explained that it was a personal decision. They’ve been feeling exhausted, and while the economy has played a part, it wasn’t the only reason for their closure.

They’re not sure what the landlords have planned for the future, but Kim will spend time with family, and Debra will take on a different job a few days a week.

The tea room closed on December 22, and the shop will be open until the end of the day on January 11. Since the announcement, they’ve received an outpouring of love from the community.

Customers have shared their sadness and gratitude, with many expressing how much they’ll miss the shop. Debra said it’s been heartwarming to see the support, especially from regulars who found comfort in the shop.

It’s clear that Mockbeggar Farm Shop has been more than just a place to buy groceries; it’s been a cherished part of the community.
