The family of Moors Murder victim Keith Bennett criticizes a website selling Ian Brady’s letters and cards, calling it deeply insensitive.
Manchester: The family of Keith Bennett, a victim of the Moors Murders, is outraged. They’re upset about a website that’s selling a Christmas card and letters written by Ian Brady, the notorious child killer.
They’re holding onto hope that 2025 might finally bring them answers about Keith’s body, which has never been found since he disappeared 60 years ago. It’s heartbreaking.
Brady was a real monster, responsible for the deaths of five children back in the 60s. Now, this website is trying to profit off his twisted legacy, selling a signed Christmas card for $550 and letters for even more.
The card has a note that says, “Thanks for card. No change here,” and it’s just chilling to think about. It was sent from the high-security hospital where Brady spent his last years.
John Ainley, the lawyer for the Bennett family, expressed disbelief that anyone would want to buy items from a man like Brady. He pointed out how insensitive it is to the families of his victims.
Keith’s brother, Alan, also spoke out, saying anyone who buys these items must be “sad, pathetic, and sick.” It’s a tough situation for the family, who just want closure.
Brady and his partner, Myra Hindley, killed five children between 1963 and 1965, and most of the victims were buried on Saddleworth Moor. But Keith’s body has never been found, despite numerous searches.
In October 2022, police tried searching again after an investigator claimed he found Keith’s remains, but they found nothing. It’s been a long, painful journey for the family.
Keith’s mother, Winnie, who passed away in 2012, spent years trying to find her son. She even went to the moor with a spade, desperate for answers.
After the death of Brady’s confidant, who many believe knew where Keith was buried, the family’s hopes dimmed. They haven’t received any information from his estate since his passing.
Despite everything, Ainley remains hopeful that new information might come to light this year. The family continues to search for Keith, keeping his memory alive.
Both Brady and Hindley were sentenced to life in prison for their horrific crimes. Brady died in 2017, while Hindley passed away in 2002.
The website selling these items has been contacted for comment, but it’s a tough pill to swallow for the families affected by these tragic events.
