Moray Council has issued a heartfelt apology following the flooding of Clovenside Cemetery in Forres, causing distress to families.
Forres: So, it turns out Clovenside Cemetery had another flooding issue, and Moray Council is really sorry about it. They’ve apologized for the distress it caused to families visiting their loved ones.
Some photos from New Year’s Day showed graves underwater, which is just heartbreaking. This isn’t the first time, either. Clovenside Cemetery has had flooding problems before.
Back in 2021, the council tried to fix things with a £56,000 drainage project. They said it would take about four weeks, but it dragged on, and no one really knew when it would be done.
They finally confirmed that the work was completed, but it seems like the problem isn’t fully solved. A council spokesperson mentioned that while they did a lot of drainage work, heavy rain can still cause ponding.
They really do feel bad about what happened, but they haven’t said if they’ll do more work to fix the issue. Local resident Karen Ettles, who has family buried there, is pretty upset about it.
She visited the cemetery on New Year’s and was shocked to see the flooding again. It’s tough for her, especially since her grandmother is buried there. She said it was heartbreaking to see the new opening in the middle of the cemetery.
It’s just not right for families to have to deal with this kind of situation. After all, funerals are already expensive enough without adding flooding to the mix.
