Residents of Moray will have to wait until 2028 for complete broadband access
Moray: It looks like folks in Moray are in for a long wait. They won’t be fully connected to superfast broadband until 2028. Can you believe that?
This news comes from a response by the Scottish Government to MSP Douglas Ross. The rollout of the R100 broadband scheme is way behind schedule.
The goal was to get superfast broadband, which means speeds over 30Mbps, to everyone in Scotland. But it’s not happening as planned.
Originally, they aimed to have everyone connected by the end of 2021. Now, Moray is looking at a seven-year delay. That’s a bummer!
In total, there are about 4,888 properties that need to be connected, but only 1,562 have been hooked up so far. That’s not great progress.
Mr. Ross has heard a lot of complaints from people about poor connectivity. Residents in places like Rafford and Roseisle are frustrated. They’ve got fibre cables just a stone’s throw away but can’t get connected without shelling out big bucks.
He’s not happy about it either. Mr. Ross said it’s unacceptable that so many people in Moray will be waiting three more years for decent internet.
He pointed out that the SNP promised to deliver this by 2021, but here we are, still waiting. People are stuck with slow speeds or no connection at all.
Even when the cables are right there, they’re being asked to pay thousands to get hooked up. That just doesn’t make sense!
Mr. Ross is calling for the SNP to take responsibility and speed up the broadband rollout, especially for those in rural areas who are tired of waiting.
