Glasgow: A mum named Deborah Mann had a terrifying experience at a Costa drive-through. She ended up with a hot drink spilling all over her lap, which led to serious burns and a hospital stay.
At 54, Deborah had to undergo skin grafts after the boiling coffee burned her skin badly. It was a nightmare that started when she picked up a large Americano for her husband. The cup was so hot that she lost her grip and it spilled everywhere.
She described the moment as shocking, saying her hand just couldn’t take the heat. After the accident, she was in agony waiting for her husband to come and take her to the hospital. It took about an hour to get help, and by then, the damage was done.
Deborah recalled how the staff at Costa reacted. They eventually brought her an ice pack and some painkillers, but it felt like forever before she got proper medical attention. The burns were so severe that she ended up with full thickness burns, which is just awful.
After weeks of treatment, including painful skin grafts, she’s still dealing with the trauma. The worst part? Having staples removed from her wounds while she was awake. That experience still gives her nightmares.
Despite everything, Deborah is trying to stay positive. She joked about her scars, saying at least she’s not a bikini model. Costa did refund her money, but she’s now switched to Starbucks for her coffee fix.
Her lawyer, Joel Shaw, is pushing for Costa to take responsibility for what happened. He believes they need to improve safety standards in their shops. Deborah’s story is a reminder of how important it is for companies to prioritize customer safety.
