Dunfermline: A parent, who prefers to stay anonymous, is really worried about her child’s experience at Touch Primary. Since switching classes in August, things have taken a turn for the worse.

She described the situation as “horrendous.” Her child has faced bullying almost daily, with other kids hitting and attacking her. It’s been tough, and she shared a story about a friend’s child being dragged across the playground.

While she acknowledges that the school is trying its best, she feels the real problem lies with the council. Fife Council has told the school there’s not much they can do about the behaviour issues.

Many parents are pulling their kids out of the school, and both she and her child are dealing with anxiety. She’s frustrated, asking who will hold the council accountable for this mess.

She believes the school is stuck because they lack support. There are many kids with additional needs, but the school doesn’t have enough staff to help them, and the council isn’t stepping up.

She also pointed out that some parents aren’t acknowledging their child’s needs, which complicates things further. The school can’t act unless parents agree, and many aren’t ready to face the truth.

Now, her child is in a class with several kids who need extra support. The school had a plan, but the council shot it down. She insists the school isn’t to blame; it’s the council and the Scottish Government that are failing to provide the necessary support.

Fife Council claims they’re working with the school to address these issues. Angela Logue, the Head of Service for Education, emphasized that student safety is a top priority and that they’re committed to ensuring a positive experience for all students.

She stated that bullying is unacceptable and that they have systems in place to support children and keep them safe. Every school in Fife has a strong anti-bullying policy, and all incidents are taken seriously.

Logue added that the Education Service is collaborating closely with Touch Primary to meet the diverse needs of students with additional requirements and will continue to seek ways to support all schools, staff, and pupils.
