A Labour MP suggests Elon Musk should focus on US matters after his comments on the UK grooming scandal sparked controversy
Oldham: So, Elon Musk has been stirring the pot again. A Labour minister, Andrew Gwynne, thinks Musk should really stick to US issues instead of poking his nose into UK politics. This comes after Musk criticized the Labour government over a grooming scandal.
Gwynne pointed out that Musk, being an American, should focus on problems back home. He mentioned that the UK has already had several inquiries into child sexual exploitation, including ones in Telford and Rotherham.
Musk, who’s got a big role in Trump’s upcoming administration, slammed Jess Phillips, the safeguarding minister, for not launching a public inquiry into historic abuse cases in Oldham. He even went as far as saying she should be in prison for her decision.
Gwynne responded to Musk’s comments, emphasizing that the grooming issue is serious and that there have been enough inquiries already. He stressed the need for justice for the victims instead of more investigations.
In his posts on X, Musk called the grooming gangs scandal a “massive crime against humanity.” He’s been vocal about his views, claiming that the refusal for another inquiry is a crime itself.
The whole situation blew up after Phillips stated that it was up to Oldham council to decide on an independent investigation. She insisted she would support their work, but the previous Conservative government also turned down a similar request last year.
Labour defended its stance, saying they support investigations to ensure justice for victims. They’re all about making sure that these horrendous crimes are properly reported and dealt with.
In the end, it seems like Musk’s comments have sparked a lot of debate, and it’s clear that the focus should be on getting justice for those affected.
