Alisa Mathewson shares her harrowing experience of abuse and survival against her ex-husband’s violent actions that lasted over two days.
Florida: Alisa Mathewson thought she was going to die when her ex-husband, Trevor Summers, attacked her. It was a terrifying 55-hour nightmare that began when he broke into her home.
Alisa recalls feeling completely helpless as Trevor assaulted her repeatedly. He even wrote a murder-suicide note to their five kids, showing just how twisted his mind had become. Thankfully, a store employee noticed something was off and alerted the police just in time.
Alisa and Trevor had a complicated history. They married in 2001, and while the early years were happy, things took a dark turn in 2016. Alisa started noticing the signs of abuse, but it was hard to recognize them at the time. She felt trapped and manipulated, especially when it came to their children.
After finally gathering the courage to leave, Alisa found herself in a shelter with nothing but the clothes on her back. She was determined to start fresh, but Trevor’s promises of support lured her back into his grasp. That decision led to the horrific events of May 2017.
When Alisa went to Trevor’s house, he held her at knifepoint for hours. Even when she tried to call the police, they struggled to believe her because there were no visible injuries. It was a frustrating and terrifying experience that made her feel even more isolated.
Trevor’s manipulation didn’t stop there. He turned their children against her, convincing them that she was the problem. Alisa’s oldest child, Arden, even helped him vandalize Alisa’s home, which was heartbreaking for her.
On the night of the attack, Trevor used Arden to gain access to Alisa’s home. Once inside, he unleashed a torrent of violence. Alisa remembers the fear in her children’s voices as they screamed for their father to stop. It was a nightmare that no one should ever have to endure.
Trevor’s reign of terror included tying Alisa up, drugging her, and filming the abuse. He even tried to suffocate her, leaving her gasping for air. Alisa’s only hope was to survive long enough to escape.
Finally, during a stop at a pharmacy, Alisa saw her chance. She managed to free herself and run, but Trevor chased after her. Luckily, a vigilant employee called the police, who quickly intervened.
After a long legal battle, Trevor was found guilty and sentenced to multiple life terms. Alisa’s bravery throughout the trial was commendable, especially as she faced her abuser in court. Now, she’s focused on healing and helping others understand the complexities of domestic violence.
Today, Alisa is living a new life, traveling in an RV and working on a book. She wants to raise awareness about domestic violence and encourage others to seek help. Her story is a powerful reminder that survival is possible, even in the darkest of times.
