David Hughes faced an air raid in Lviv while delivering aid to Ukraine
Lviv: So, David Hughes, the chairman of the North Coast 500, had quite the adventure recently. He found himself in an air-raid shelter in Lviv while on a charity mission to Ukraine. Can you believe it?
He was part of a group delivering vehicles and supplies to help with the ongoing conflict there. They were working with a charity called Pick-ups For Peace, which is all about getting off-road vehicles to those in need.
David’s convoy was the 17th to make this journey, and they even delivered the 500th vehicle. How cool is that? There were 27 vehicles in total, with drivers from all over, including one guy from North Carolina!
David drove a trusty old Toyota Land Cruiser, collecting supplies along the way. He packed everything from motor oil to body bags, which really puts things into perspective, doesn’t it?
After a long trip, they finally reached Lviv, escorted by police with flashing lights. David described it as an adrenaline rush, and I can only imagine how intense that must have been!
Once they arrived, they had a ceremony with local officials and even got to chat with Ukrainian soldiers. It was clear how much the supplies meant to them, showing that support from places like the UK really matters.
David has been involved with this charity since it started, and he’s seen firsthand how important these convoys are. On their last night, they had to hunker down in an air raid shelter because of drone attacks. Talk about a reality check!
After all that, they made it back home safely. David said it was a humbling experience, and it really highlighted the amazing work being done by the charity and the people involved.
