A north London man faces backlash for his giant treehouse, which a neighbor claims invades her privacy and is an eyesore
North London: A bit of a ruckus has kicked off over a giant treehouse that popped up during the lockdown. Mary, an 82-year-old lady, is not too happy about it. She says the wooden structure built by her neighbor, Tariq Khan, is way too big and looks right into her garden and bedroom.
Tariq, 57, built the treehouse to keep himself busy during the pandemic. He calls it “Sunshine View” and has added swings and a slide. But Mary sees it as a total eyesore that ruins her garden vibe. She feels like her privacy has taken a hit, and it’s really bothering her.
Mary tried to raise her concerns when it was being built, but she says Tariq brushed her off. She’s been feeling upset about it ever since. “It’s like my garden isn’t mine anymore,” she told MailOnline. She mentioned that during the lockdown, there were bigger worries, but now it feels like no one is listening.
Tariq, on the other hand, thinks everyone loves the treehouse. He claims he hasn’t heard any complaints and even gets praise from folks passing by. He insists it doesn’t need planning permission since it’s a temporary structure. But the council is now looking into it after Mary’s complaints came to light.
In England, if a treehouse is over a certain height or has sleeping areas, it might need permission. The council said they weren’t aware of any issues before but will check if any rules were broken now that they know.
