East Herts Neighbourhood Policing Teams are focusing on key local issues to enhance community safety and engagement
Bishop’s Stortford: The Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPTs) in East Herts are rolling out their new priorities for the next few months. They’re all about tackling local issues that matter most to residents.
These teams work closely with partners to address both short-term and long-term problems like anti-social behaviour, theft, speeding, and drug-related crime. They analyze data every four months to pinpoint what’s causing the most concern in the community.
Residents can expect to see their dedicated police officers and community support officers actively engaging in Bishop’s Stortford and Sawbridgeworth. They’ll be out there addressing the agreed priorities through increased police presence and community events.
One of the main goals is to cut down on youth-related anti-social behaviour in Bishop’s Stortford’s town centre and tackle retail crime in Sawbridgeworth. While focusing on these priorities, officers will still handle everyday issues and any urgent matters that pop up.
In addition to the NPTs, there are Intervention officers for emergency calls and a Local Crime Unit that deals with serious crimes like burglary and robbery. They also have specialized teams like Operation Scorpion to combat theft-related crimes.
Previously, locals had asked for more attention on issues like motor vehicle-related anti-social behaviour in the Link Road area. Officers conducted proactive patrols and issued warnings to drivers, letting them know that repeat offenders could have their vehicles seized.
They’ve also updated signage to remind motorists of the consequences of reckless driving. Speed checks were carried out in Hadham Road, where one driver was caught going 54mph in a 30mph zone.
In Sawbridgeworth, the focus remains on motor vehicle-related anti-social behaviour. Officers have been proactive, working with the Rural Operational Support Team and even using drones to identify offenders. They’re keeping a close eye on these issues as they continue to develop.
