Dudley borough introduces new 20mph speed limits to enhance safety around schools
Dudley: New speed limits are coming to the roads around schools in Dudley borough. They’re rolling out a 20mph limit to help keep kids safe during school runs.
This change is mainly focused on Peters Hill Primary School in Brierley Hill and Brook Primary School in Wordsley. The local council is really keen on making school journeys safer.
Cllr Damian Corfield, who’s in charge of highways, is all for it. He mentioned that they’re also adding parking restrictions and traffic calming measures. It’s all part of the Safer School Streets Initiative.
The pilot program will run until next summer, and then they’ll see how it’s working out. They got feedback from the community, and most folks were on board, with only a couple of objections.
Residents raised concerns about parked cars blocking views at intersections and making it tricky for pedestrians. It’s a real issue, especially during school drop-off and pick-up times.
Statistics show that a significant number of accidents happen during school runs, so this initiative is a step in the right direction. Plus, a report indicated that road collisions drop during school holidays, which is promising.
Here’s a list of some roads that will see these changes: Farndale Crescent, Beaumont Drive, and Peters Hill Road, among others. It’s all about making the area safer for everyone.
