Ainsdale’s latest bar, In Den Engel, is attracting beer lovers with its impressive selection of 127 different brews from Europe
Gary, along with his wife Sue and their partners Martin and Pam Bos, who own The Barrel House in Birkdale, decided to take the plunge. Gary’s been into Belgian beer for ages and wanted to share that passion with others. He’s had a pretty varied career, from law enforcement to working in the civil service, but now he’s ready to focus on this new venture.
He mentioned that they had thought about opening a bar years ago when craft beer was becoming popular. But when their friends opened The Barrel House, they thought their plans were dashed. Fast forward, and here they are with a bar of their own!
In Den Engel boasts 113 bottled beers and 14 taps, with six featuring Belgian brews—Gary’s personal favorites. He’s excited to offer a unique experience for locals, saying it’s something Ainsdale really needed. They’re not trying to compete with anyone; they just want to provide something different.
Besides beer, they serve great coffee, teas, and even gluten-free options. The bar’s name means “The Angel” and pays tribute to a café in Antwerp. After 14 weeks of renovations, they’ve created a cozy, European-style spot right on Liverpool Road.
Gary is all about quality. He wants to ensure every drink served is top-notch. He’s already seen people traveling from Liverpool just to check out the bar. With its convenient location, he hopes more folks will come by and enjoy what they have to offer.
In Den Engel is located at 636 Liverpool Road, Ainsdale, PR8 3BH, and is open daily from 10 am to 11 pm.
