A new bike route for the Long Course Weekend aims to ease local concerns and enhance the event experience
Pembrokeshire: There’s a buzz about a new bike route for the Long Course Weekend. This change could really shake things up for cyclists, taking them further north and avoiding some tricky spots like Saundersfoot and Wisemans Bridge.
This triathlon event has been a summer staple since 2010, but it’s not without its issues. Locals have been grumbling about road closures and how they affect businesses. The current route stretches 112 miles and includes some busy areas, which has led to complaints.
These councillors pointed out that during the race, places like Saundersfoot and Amroth feel cut off, especially on Saturdays in June and July. It’s a real hassle for both residents and businesses.
After the council meeting, the Long Course organizers proposed a new circular route. They’re looking to make changes that could ease the burden on local communities while still keeping the event alive.
Now, there’s a special meeting set for January 10 to discuss these new ideas. The proposed route would take cyclists on a scenic journey, starting in Tenby and looping around some beautiful spots before heading back.
The organizers believe this new route will not only reduce disruptions but also showcase more of Pembrokeshire’s stunning landscapes. They’re hoping this will attract more visitors and benefit the local economy.
