Winchester: Canon Micklefield has been the Vicar in Alton since 2014. He’s also been responsible for nearby areas like Bentworth and Lasham. Now, he’s stepping up to join the Cathedral Chapter.

In his new role, he’ll oversee the Learning Team and help boost the Cathedral’s presence as the Mother Church of the Diocese. He’ll also work with the Guild of Voluntary Guides and lead services, which sounds like a busy but rewarding gig.

Canon Roland Riem, the current Canon Chancellor, will be stepping in as Interim Dean when Dean Catherine retires on May 1. So, it’s a bit of a transition period for everyone involved.

On a personal note, Andrew is married to Fiona, who’s the headteacher at a local primary school. They have two kids, Emily and Daniel, plus a dog named Ottie. Andrew’s also a talented musician, playing both the piano and organ.

Bishop Philip shared his thoughts, saying Andrew is well-respected in the Diocese and has a lot to offer. He’s excited about Andrew’s new role and how it’ll strengthen ties between the Cathedral and the Diocese.

Dean Catherine also expressed her happiness about Andrew joining the team. She believes his experience as a parish priest will be a great asset during this transition. They’re all looking forward to welcoming him and seeing how he’ll contribute.

Andrew is already an Honorary Canon at the Cathedral, so he’s no stranger to the place. He’s held various leadership roles in the Diocese and will be officially installed as Residentiary Canon during Evensong at 3:30 PM on April 5.
