Durham: Exciting news for folks living in Durham! The Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) is rolling out a new online service. Now, you can apply for, buy, and manage your parking permit right from your couch.
This change means you won’t have to fuss with paper permits anymore. The council is keeping everything electronic, so enforcement officers can easily check if a vehicle is parked legally.
When it’s time to renew your permit, you’ll get a heads-up from the council on how to do it online. No more last-minute scrambles!
Councillor Elizabeth Scott is all for this new system. She believes it’ll make life easier for residents. You won’t need to trek to The Parking Shop anymore; everything can be done from home.
Plus, this new setup should cut down on lost permits and those pesky fines for forgetting to display them. It’ll also help enforcement officers spot any cars parked without a valid permit more easily.
Visitors will also benefit from virtual parking vouchers instead of those old paper scratch cards. You can grab these online ahead of time or when your guest arrives. If you prefer the paper version, that’s still an option!
This change comes after residents pushed for tougher measures against illegal parking in the city. Many locals are concerned about nighttime parking issues affecting safety in this historic area.
Durham County Council is also looking at new parking charges to tackle these problems. They’re considering extending charges to Sundays and bank holidays, and even raising fees for entering the historic part of the city.
