West Mercia Police is on the hunt for a new chief constable to lead the force
Worcester: So, here’s the scoop. Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion is kicking off the search for a new chief constable for West Mercia Police. It’s been a bit of a wait, but they’re finally getting things rolling.
The chief constable is a big deal. They’re the top dog in the West Mercia Police, responsible for making sure everything runs smoothly and that the community gets the policing it needs.
According to a spokesperson, Campion is all about finding someone who can really focus on making communities safer in Herefordshire, Worcestershire, and Shropshire. He wants someone who’ll tackle crime head-on and be smart with taxpayers’ money.
Just a heads up, West Mercia has been without a permanent chief constable since Pippa Mills stepped down in October 2023. It’s been a bit of a journey.
Back in December, Campion thought he had found his guy in Kyle Gordon from the Metropolitan Police. But then, out of the blue, Gordon couldn’t take the job due to unforeseen circumstances. Bummer, right?
In the meantime, Deputy Chief Constable Richard Cooper has been filling in as the temporary chief since summer. Campion is eager to find someone permanent who can help him tackle the public’s priorities and keep building on the progress made so far.
He’s got the public’s backing and some serious investment in West Mercia Police, so it’s all about moving forward and making the area safer for everyone.
