Junction 1 of the M20 will close for safety upgrades from January 17 to 20
Swanley: So, they’ve finally set new dates for that closure at Junction 1 of the M20. It’s all about putting in a new safety barrier, which is pretty important.
Originally, they were supposed to do this last month, but Storm Darragh had other plans. The weather really threw a wrench in the works.
Now, they’re planning to get it done from 10 PM on Friday, January 17, until 5:30 AM on Monday, January 20. It’s a tight schedule, but they’re hoping to finish it all in one go.
The idea is to make the road safer for everyone and cut down on future maintenance. National Highways mentioned that they need to close the road because there will be times when there’s no barrier between the lanes.
They’ll be working around the clock for 56 hours straight to get this done. It’s all about minimizing disruption, which is a relief for drivers.
Amelia Yeodal from National Highways said they’ve planned everything carefully to keep things running smoothly. A little detour will be in place for traffic heading to London and the coast.
If you’re heading coast-bound, you’ll need to exit at Junction 1 and follow the signs. And if you’re going towards London, it’s the same deal but in reverse.
Good news is that the slip roads connecting the M20 and M25 will stay open, so at least there’s that!
