Basingstoke’s new enforcement cameras are changing driver behavior for the better
These cameras are set up on Alencon Link and Norn Hill, part of a bigger plan with nine locations across Hampshire. They’re already up and running, which is great news!
The whole idea is to keep drivers from using the bus gate, which is meant for buses and taxis only. A council spokesperson mentioned that while it’s early days, they’re noticing a shift in how drivers behave. Fewer people are driving where they shouldn’t be, which is a win!
They’re keeping an eye on things to make sure this positive trend sticks around. Other towns like Winchester and Eastleigh are also getting these cameras, so it’s a wider effort.
If drivers break the rules, they’ll get hit with a £70 fine, but it drops to £35 if they pay up within 21 days. Cllr Nick Adams-King, who’s in charge of highways, said these measures are all about making roads safer and easing congestion.
Thanks to new government powers, local councils can now enforce these traffic rules, which used to be the police’s job. It’s all about keeping our roads safer for everyone!
