Thornbury: Exciting news! A new farmers’ market is on the way to a quiet hamlet just east of Thornbury. It’s set to kick off in March, right across from the Dobbies Garden Centre on Cutts Heath Road in Buckover. The market will start off running once a month, with plans to ramp up to three days a week.

Now, not everyone is thrilled about this. Some neighbors are worried about the noise, smells, and traffic that might come with it. They’ve been living in the area for years and feel that a market doesn’t quite fit the peaceful vibe of their rural community.

Laura Hares, a local resident, expressed her concerns at a recent licensing hearing. She mentioned that the site has caused stress in the past and that they’re worried about litter and increased traffic. It’s a valid point, especially in a quiet area where everyone knows each other.

On the flip side, Mitchell Bracey, the director of Buckovers, believes this market will bring much-needed community space and local trading opportunities. He reassured everyone that food vendors won’t be using generators, and they’ve got plans to manage traffic effectively.

Plus, there are even bigger plans in the works! Buckovers wants to open a garden center and a farm shop on the site, which could be a great addition to the community. They did have a test event last September to see how things would go, but it seems that didn’t sit well with some locals.

It’s a mixed bag of excitement and concern, but it’ll be interesting to see how this all unfolds. The community is definitely buzzing about it!
