A five-bed HMO is planned for a house on Morden Road. Neighbors object, citing too many HMOs and potential community impact.
HMOs are homes for several unrelated adults. People have their own rooms there. They share kitchens and living rooms.
The applicant says it’s near transport, and close to services and shops. He told Newport City Council this. A council officer who deals with HMO licenses has no worries and sees no problem turning the house into an HMO.
Some neighbors don’t like the idea. They sent letters to the council. They worry about too many HMOs in St Julian’s.
They say Morden Road has five HMOs already. More HMOs might hurt the community and it could become unbalanced, they claim. The residents want family values to be a focus.
They fear more noise and less privacy, saying an HMO could cause such issues. Parking is already hard, according to neighbors, who say it is far from their homes. They also mentioned illegal dumping. More people could make it worse.
Local councillors also said no. The St Julian’s councillors object to the plan. They want the planning committee to decide it.
You can see the plans on the council website. The reference number is 24/1017. People can share their thoughts now.
