London: A new map has come out showing all the violent incidents reported by MyLondon in 2024. While it doesn’t cover everything, it gives a good idea of where the violence has been happening across the city.

So far, there have been 12 shootings, 51 stabbings, and 25 assaults that led to homicide investigations. It looks like most of the violent crime, especially stabbings, is happening in North and East London.

When we compare this to last year, there were 103 homicides in London in 2023. Out of those, 67 were stabbings, eight were shootings, and the rest were other types of attacks. It seems like shootings are on the rise, while stabbings have dropped a bit.

Action on Armed Violence says that tackling violence in London needs everyone to pitch in—police, schools, and community groups all have a role to play. They believe focusing on the areas most affected and investing in young people can really help.

Some hotspots for these incidents include areas between Haggerston and Bethnal Green, Ladbroke Grove, and around Finsbury Park. Many of these incidents happened in parks, train stations, and near places where people go for fun.

A report from the Mayor’s Violence Reduction Unit found that violence is often linked to income deprivation in neighborhoods. They pointed to the 2008 recession and cuts as factors that made some areas more vulnerable to crime.

Since 2021, the VRU has been running a project called ‘My Ends,’ putting £14.5 million into eight areas to help reduce violence. The Mayor, Sir Sadiq Khan, has promised to expand this project to 11 areas with even more funding.

They claim this program has already helped over 50,000 young people and community members. If you want to see the map of fatal crashes in London this year, you can check that out too.
