Shamsud-Din Jabbar is named as the suspect in a New Orleans attack that killed 10 people and injured many others during New Year celebrations
New Orleans: A tragic incident unfolded on New Year’s Eve when a car drove into a crowd, resulting in ten fatalities. The police have identified the suspect as Shamsud-Din Jabbar.
As people celebrated the arrival of 2025, an SUV crashed into the crowd, injuring 35 others. The mayor has called it a terrorist attack, which adds to the horror of the situation.
Jabbar, a U.S. citizen, was reportedly carrying an ISIS flag during the attack. After the crash, he got out and opened fire on police officers, injuring two before he was shot dead.
The FBI is now investigating Jabbar’s potential ties to ISIS. His vehicle was traced back to him, and it had crossed the U.S.-Mexico border just days before the incident.
Jabbar, originally from Beaumont, Texas, served in the military for ten years. He had a history of minor run-ins with the law, including theft and driving offenses.
Authorities found explosive devices in his possession, raising further concerns. The FBI is working to determine the nature of these devices and their viability.
Police Commissioner Anne Kirkpatrick described Jabbar’s actions as intentional, emphasizing that he aimed to cause maximum harm. The attack occurred at a busy intersection known for nightlife.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell labeled the incident a terrorist attack and advised people to avoid the area. The governor of Louisiana echoed these sentiments, urging caution as the investigation continues.
