New Orleans: So, there was this guy, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, who drove his truck into a crowd during New Year’s celebrations. Before that, he had been in the city a couple of times, recording videos with his Meta smart glasses along Bourbon Street.

He came back right before the New Year’s festivities and, sadly, that’s when he carried out his attack, which tragically killed 14 people and hurt many more.

Police ended up shooting him during the chaos. They found the glasses on him afterward but didn’t think he was live-streaming during the attack.

These glasses are pretty high-tech; they can take photos and record videos. Jabbar seemed to know his way around tech, having worked in IT roles in the military and with big firms like Deloitte and Ernst & Young.

Even though he had these fancy tools, investigators said he didn’t really know what he was doing when it came to explosives. He had plans for a second part of his attack using improvised explosive devices, but that never happened.

He wanted to use electric matches to set off some coolers with explosives, but he didn’t have the right gear to make it work. A special agent mentioned that it showed he didn’t really understand how to handle that kind of material.

This is still a developing story, so we’ll keep an eye out for updates.
