The New Orleans terror suspect was a divorcee and ex-US Army member, linked to a deadly car attack that left many injured and dead.
New Orleans: So, there’s this guy named Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a 42-year-old who was born in Texas and had a stint in the US Army. He’s been named by the FBI as the one behind a tragic car ramming incident that killed 10 people and injured around 30 others.
After he was shot by police, more about his life started to come out. Turns out, he was working as a real estate agent and had gone through a divorce. Financial issues were also a big part of his life, which isn’t surprising given the circumstances.
Jabbar had served in the Army for a while, but that was ages ago. The FBI mentioned he was honorably discharged, and they’re digging through records to find out more about his military background.
Just a few years back, he was managing properties and working in real estate. In a YouTube video, he talked about his work with a couple of companies and mentioned he was from Beaumont, Texas, but lived in Houston.
He claimed to have learned a lot about service and being responsive during his military days, which he tried to apply to his real estate career. He even said he was a tough negotiator, which he thought set him apart from other agents.
But things took a dark turn. His truck was found with a homemade Islamic State flag, and he had filed for divorce last year, revealing he was in serious financial trouble. He owed a ton of money and was facing foreclosure.
Jabbar had some education under his belt, with degrees in IT and computer information systems. But it seems like his life spiraled out of control, especially in the last year when he started showing signs of radicalization.
After the attack, the FBI said they don’t think he acted alone. They’re still trying to figure out when and how he became radicalized. His family is understandably shaken up, and it’s a real mess all around.
In the aftermath, law enforcement found some firearms in his truck, and they’re treating this as a serious act of terrorism. It’s a tragic situation that’s left a lot of people reeling.
