Communities in King’s Lynn and surrounding areas come together to support local charities and good causes this New Year
Back in January 2014, the charities committee at Methwold’s Iceni Academy decided to support the West Norfolk Riding for the Disabled after a successful Comic Relief day. They presented a £500 cheque to the yard manager, Natalie Dade, with some of the committee members looking proud as punch.
That same month, Middleton Hall Golf Club made a big impact in the fight against cancer. The seniors’ captain, Brian Clapham, handed over a £650 cheque to Tom Bamford from Cancer Research UK. It was a great moment for everyone involved.
Over in King’s Lynn, The Big C Centre received a lovely boost with a new therapy bed, thanks to a £250 donation from the Norfolk Farmers Masonic Lodge 8393. The Lodge master and members were thrilled to help out.
In January 2013, the Purfleet Trust in Lynn got some fantastic news. They were set to receive £106,277 from Homeless Link, which was a much-needed boost during a tough winter for those sleeping rough in the area.
Also in 2013, the Lancaster members of the RAOB donated £2,500 to Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a charity that supports children of fallen soldiers. It was a touching moment, with the charity founder, Nikki Scott, present to accept the generous donation.
The Hall family from St Germans also made headlines in January 2013 when they donated £1,000 to the neonatal intensive care unit at Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital. They raised the money at a New Year’s Eve party, showing their gratitude for the care their son received.
In 2012, staff at Lynn’s Sainsbury’s came together to raise £1,000 for Children in Need, showcasing the community spirit that thrives in the area.
And let’s not forget the Samphire Quilters, who raffled off a beautiful hand-crafted quilt, raising another £1,000 for Different Strokes.
These stories remind us of the kindness and generosity that can be found in our communities. If you have a nostalgic photo or story to share, don’t hesitate to reach out to the newsdesk.
