Bishop Auckland: Frank Ridley passed away peacefully at home on January 20. He was a former headmaster at Sugar Hill School in Newton Aycliffe. His impact on students and staff was profound.

Mr. Ridley started as a year four teacher in 1969. He dedicated nearly 40 years to Sugar Hill, retiring in 2007. He cherished his time there, saying all his memories were happy.

His family described him as a devoted husband and a loving brother. They shared their grief in a statement, highlighting his role as a good friend to many.

After his passing, social media was filled with tributes. Caroline Preston called him “the best.” Many others shared similar thoughts, expressing their sadness.

Parents remembered his kindness. Lesley Lowes said he was a nice man and a great headmaster. Lesley Fleming recalled his daily visits for drinking chocolate.

Former students also shared their memories. Jo Hall mentioned how she spoke about him with her daughter. He was a fantastic teacher and a lovely man.

Gail Mitchell remembered him as always ready to help, even acting as a lollipop man. Jason Armstrong simply stated, “He was the best headmaster.”

Mr. Ridley’s legacy lives on. He was a fantastic teacher and a good friend. Jane Hubery recalled a funny April Fools’ Day prank he played.

Friends are invited to his funeral at Wear Valley Crematorium on February 5.
