A 63-year-old man from Newton Aycliffe has been jailed for 12 years for multiple sexual offences against a young girl, including filming some acts.
Newton Aycliffe: A 63-year-old man named Alan Wilson has been sentenced for some truly awful crimes against a young girl. He committed these acts over just a few days last year, and some of them were even filmed.
In court, it was revealed that Wilson, who had no previous issues with the law, is now seen as a high risk to children. He was arrested after 19 charges were brought against him, which is pretty serious.
During his plea hearing in October, he admitted to all the charges. These included nine counts of sexual assault and several others related to encouraging a child to engage in sexual activity.
Some of the images found were classified as quite serious, which just adds to the gravity of the situation. After admitting his guilt, he was initially granted bail but with strict conditions to stay away from children.
When he returned to court for sentencing, his lawyer argued that Wilson recognized his wrongdoings but questioned the assessment of him being a high risk. However, the judge made it clear that this was a serious matter.
The judge described Wilson’s actions as “despicable” and expressed concern about the psychological impact on the young girl involved. In the end, Wilson was sentenced to 12 years in prison, and he must serve at least two-thirds of that time before he can be considered for release.
Additionally, he will be under a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for life, meaning he can’t have any contact with the victim. He’s also required to register as a sex offender indefinitely. It’s a tough sentence, but it reflects the severity of his actions.
