Recent data shows North Ayrshire wardens issued 5,689 parking fines since last year, raising significant revenue for the council
North Ayrshire: A recent freedom of information request has shed light on parking fines in the area. Since the decriminalised parking enforcement started, wardens have issued 5,689 fines to drivers.
This new system kicked off in November 2023 but officially began on April 15 last year. In just a few months, the council has raked in £228,500 from these fines.
Most drivers, about 3,964, paid their fines quickly, taking advantage of a reduced charge of £50. Others, around 303, paid the full £100 fine.
But not everything is settled yet. There are still 464 cases that have been sent to sheriffs for debt recovery. It seems pavement parking is the biggest issue, with 1,374 fines issued for that alone.
Other common violations include 900 fines for parking in ‘no waiting’ zones, 411 for overstaying, and 403 for not having a valid pay and display ticket.
The hotspots for these offences? Car parks on West Road and High Street in Irvine, along with Main Street in Largs, are where most of the fines are being handed out.
